Ohio has some very cold winters, but that didn’t stop us from capturing a fun cake smash session in my studio in January! I was so excited to take pictures of Jordyn for her 1st birthday! I love working with repeat clients, especially when I’ve known the mom since high school. Alicia and I used to cheer competitively together. I’ve been fortunate enough to continue working with this family and have enjoyed every moment I’ve been able to capture for them. Whether it was their wedding day a few years ago or my Christmas Mini Sessions just last year, this family has been so supportive of my photography business through the years.

For Jordyn’s session, she first wore a bright orange and black outfit with a simple background. This sweet girl definitely knows how to smile for the camera. She was such a happy baby and didn’t shed any tears the entire time! I then set up a “Winter Wonderland” background and props for her cake smash. I included pink, white and gold colors with some trees and fake snow. She tore into her cake like a real pro! For the remaining time of her session, we made sure to show off her cute baby bum! Jordyn has the sweetest smile! Her baby rolls are so cute!

Before you bring your child to any kind of session, I have some tips to make sure that your photos go smoothly! Make sure your child takes a good nap beforehand and has eaten. Bring some snacks just in case you need an extra distraction to keep him or her happy. In case something happens to the outfit(s), be sure to bring a spar set of clothes. If your child has a favorite stuffed animal or blanket, bring that along too! It may give them some extra comfort if they start to get fussy. One last tip is: if your child is teething, please consider giving them Tylenol before you come. I hate to tell parents to give their kid medication, but trust me…between you and I, you will thank you later. 😉
