A celebration of two families joining together in Ohio isn’t complete without farming and cows! Meghan and David had a beautiful Fremont, Ohio winter wedding with the ceremony at a church and the reception at a local venue. As a photographer who is also involved with agriculture, these types of weddings are always my favorite! 👌🏼
Wintery Wedding Details
Meghan made sure to include winter themed details throughout the entire wedding day! Her dress showed off layers of sheer material with shimmering sleeves and a full button design all the way down the back. If Cinderella has planned a similar wedding, I’m convinced this is what her dress would have looked like. 💙 The invitation suite was a periwinkle blue with snowflakes and Meghan’s garter was blue as well as the wax seal – designed by me. 😉 She included touches of blue and white flowers in her bouquet. The bridesmaids came to the church ready with make up and hair already done. They wore their cute blue and brown matching flannel shirts.
Meghan’s mom and some of her bridesmaids helped her into her dress and shoes. She completed her look with a white fur shawl to keep her warm. After she was fully dressed, we went straight into her first look with David. These portraits took place outside in the courtyard area at Grace Luthern Church in Fremont, Ohio. Even though there wasn’t much greenery in the background, a tall Japanese maple added some striking color to their portraits. After Meghan’s first look with David and some bride and groom portraits, she also had a first look with her dad. The way Meghan’s dad reacted to seeing her are perfectly told in the photos – lots of tears and emotions between both of them. 😭
Since we had time before the ceremony, Meghan posed with her bridesmaids for some GORGEOUS winter photos in the church courtyard. ❄️ The stone work on the church and the “winter weeds” as I call them, make for the PERFECT background!! Everyone went inside to warm up before the ceremony. Due to the day’s schedule, we ended up shooting the groomsmen after Meghan and David got married.
Family Farms and Jersey Cows
This church was so beautiful! Anytime I have the opportunity to shoot a wedding in a church like this, the stained glass windows always lend a certain ethereal quality to the ceremony. The church was already decorated for Christmas as well and was a nice touch for the wedding. After the ceremony, we shot family portraits at the altar and then headed to Meghan’s family’s farm where they have show cattle. We captured some pictures with the heifers (girl cows) and it was VERY windy out! We only posed in front of the cattle for a short time and then went on the north side of one of the barns to get a break from the wind.
I loved working with the wedding party! They were fun, energetic and lively, which always makes my life easier as a photographer! 🙌🏼 After we shot portraits at Meghan’s family’s farm, we headed over to the dairy farm, which is David’s side of the family. Their farm is called Jer Bel Farms, where they milk Jersey cows. This is also the same place where I took their engagement photos. (Coincidentally, Meghan and David’s engagement photos took place during the winter season.) I have also taken the extended family photos here for the Kings. It’s amazing to think that I have known the King family since I was a little girl! ❤️
Since this was a winter wedding but no precipitation in sight, we couldn’t complete bride and groom portraits without a little snow! ❄️ I made sure to bring my snow machine and we created some quick photos in front of one of the white barns. After some beautiful portraits with the Jersey cows and a champagne pop with the wedding party out back 🍾, we headed to the Neeley Center for the reception.
A Fun and Light-Hearted Wedding Reception
Before Meghan and David made their entrance into the reception, two wedding party members dressed up in blow-up cow costumes 😂. After their first dance as husband and wife, Meghan and David went right into cutting their cake. They had a small cake made just for reception photos, decorated with light blue fondant and white snowflakes rising up along the side. This was no ordinary cake cutting! Instead of using plates and forks and feeding each other a delicate piece, they smashed that cake right in each other’s faces! 👏🏼 (Thank you for some great photos!! 👌🏼)
When Meghan started to dance with her dad, they both expressed the same emotions as during their first look – lots of tears and heartfelt smiles. 😭 As it is becoming a current trend, I included “trash the wedding” photos at the reception. These included a piece of cake, blue Christmas ornaments, a beer can, their thank you card, and a cute gingerbread man cookie.
This wedding was a fun evening of local farmers getting together to celebrate two families coming together as one 💙.
