I have to say that although Elena and Wynston’s March wedding in Bradner, Ohio was just gorgeous, the weekend itself ended up being a little crazy. However, with the help of my friends and fellow vendors, this wedding was a beautiful day for this sweet couple!
I’m an experienced wedding photographer with so many weddings under my belt. Even though I have shot in rain and snow, I didn’t anticipate other things happening during this wedding. Here’s a little bit of a background: the Thursday before this weekend, I went to urgent care and tested positive for Influenza A. I know, right?! With the help of my AMAZING second shooter and her dear friend, who is a wedding coordinator, she shot most of the wedding. I was feeling OKAY, but knew I wouldn’t be able to capture the entire day.
In the beginning of the week, there was an 85% chance of rain, which really throws off any wedding day. I was totally prepared! I already have a good supply of clean umbrellas, so I was armed with those and had chosen two to four “covered overhead” spots that we could shoot at around the Fremont, Ohio area. However, as the week progressed, the chances of rain slimed down to 45% and then 20% – phew!!
Come Saturday morning, I passed along my clear umbrellas to my second shooter Jen. I met her at the church and passed off the essentials. I also decided that because I have a good supply of “detail things”, and there wasn’t going to be a lot of people around, I stayed to shoot the detail shots quickly. It was best for me to shoot the details without a lot of people around since I was sick.
Jen had also asked me the day before if I would be willing to still take the bride and groom and bridal party portraits. Because I have been the one working with them, especially on their engagement session and I knew how they acted around each other, she felt more comfortable with me shooting those images. Since we were going to be shooting those outside instead at the church, I felt more comfortable since I still wasn’t feeling well.
I met back up with Elena and Wynston and the wedding party after the ceremony at Bradner Preserve. When we first arrived, one of the groomsmen said “You’re going to edit in some pretty green leaves and trees in the back right?!” The park was obviously dead with brown leaves everywhere and nothing had started growing yet. I laughed and smiled at him and said “Do you not trust me?!” Lol 😆 He was completely kidding of course, but it was funny! This was such a laid back bridal party to work which was an added plus, with me being sick. We unfortunately didn’t have any sunshine for Elena and Wynston’s wedding, but it didn’t rain, so Jen and I were happy!
This wedding would not have been possible without Jen and Khrissy, the wedding coordinator that came along with Jen. Jen has always been amazing to work with, and I can rave about her all day long. She is dependable and I can always count on her in a difficult situation. Her willingness to step up and not even bat an eye about being the main shooter two days before a wedding is something that’s hard to find in a second shooter.
They say it takes a village to raise kids. Well, I have rediscovered that it really does take a village to make a wedding happen! This wedding was a testament to that! Congratulations to Elena and Wynston on their beautiful March wedding in Bradner, Ohio! Thank you for being so flexible during this crazy weekend!
