Last time I was at Ohio State University, I was documenting the first steps of Mia’s college future as she was graduating from high school. For this particular senior session, we’re flipping the script, working with Lizzie, a brand new OSU graduate! She was such an amazing client, was always smiling during her photoshoot, and was an absolute joy to be around! Lizzie was easy to communicate with on all aspects of her session, and even more fun, she included her dog, Mitch! It’s always sentimental and exciting for me when I return to old stomping grounds to capture portraits for a graduate like me. ❤️ The weather was beautiful for Lizzie’s college senior session at Ohio State, and we hit all the best spots on campus!

College Memories and Eventful Moments

Lizzie just finished her Bachelor of Science in Evolution and Ecology with a double minor in American Sign Language and Environmental Sciences. That’s definitely a lot of hard work, so it was so fun to celebrate her accomplishments!

Some of her favorite moments were cheering on the OSU Men’s Ice Hockey team with her friends, and studying abroad in Iceland through the School of Environment and Natural Resources. For an ecology and environmental sciences student, that’s pretty much a dream come true!

During her time at OSU, she spent most of her time on campus in Jennings Hall for classes, work, and studying. Lizzie loved hanging out in the outdoor courtyard out back and grabbing her go-to coffee order came from inside the student center at Ohio Union.

Iconic Photographic Locations

With Mia’s session, I laid out all of the best shooting locations for OSU campus. (Need help with that? I’m your girl. 😉) We shot at those same spots with a few extra areas that were special to Lizzie. She and I did a full lap of campus, and it did not disappoint! We kicked things off at the top of the Oval and slowly walked our way down. That sweeping green space with the big paved walkways is just so Ohio State – you can’t NOT capture it! From there, we landed right in front of Thompson Library, which is honestly one of the best backdrops on campus. It’s really hard to go wrong there, as it’s one of the most recognizable buildings on campus.

We ducked over to University Hall next, and good thing too because I’m a total sucker for that building. Between the beautiful brick work and carefully designed windows, it photographs so elegantly and gives senior portraits that classic collegiate feel I love. 👌🏼

Then we looped around to Mirror Lake, just on the other side of Thompson Library, which is always peaceful, lush, and a little magical. Our last location wrapped up her session exactly where it felt right: Jennings Hall, the building where Lizzie spent so much of her time over the last four years. 🥹

Including Lizzie’s dog Mitch into her college portraits was extra special! First of all, if you want to include your dog in your session, I’m here for it! Having your furry friend brings out your personality during your photoshoot and shows a side that most people don’t get to see.

A Gap Year and Future Plans

Lizzie is currently in her gap year, which is very well deserved, where she will be resting and doing volunteer work. Down the road, she’s planning on grad school in environmental sciences, focused on contaminant fate and transport in soil and water. She is even considering law school to become an environmental lawyer someday. She’s got an amazing plan for her future career, and I’m excited to keep cheering her on! Go Bucks! ❤️🖤
